Accessibility Beyond Compliance
How Do I Get There?
For people using mobility aids, the first question when planning any outing is
"How do I get there?" Unfortunately, finding clear, reliable accessibility info
can be a challenge. Within Walking Distance makes it easier by helping venues
improve what they share online. So you can plan your visit with confidence.
Our Guidelines
We have developed a comprehensive list of questions people who use walking aids
need answered before visiting a public venue. We then compared it to the accessibility
information available from websites of museums, theaters, and other spaces, and
compiled our findings here. We also have a self-assessment form for public spaces
to encourage them to review and enhance their web pages.
Our Future
The Within Walking Distance Foundation will soon be able to provide grants to
non-profit venues to enhance their physical accessibility. These projects can include
things like chair lifts, ramps, and more. We look forward to announcing our request
for proposals soon – stay tuned!
