About
The Mattress Factory is an artist-centered contemporary art museum, international residency program, and renowned producer and presenter of installation art in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood of Pittsburgh's Northside. Its public campus spans three historic buildings — the main six-story warehouse at 500 Sampsonia Way (with an attached Administrative Office Building), plus galleries at 516 Sampsonia Way and 1414 Monterey Street; visitors check in at the Admissions Desk at 509 Jacksonia Street. Admission is free for members and children under 6, and $22 adults / $20 seniors / $17 students, with discounts for limited mobility, Northside neighbors, and veterans.

The MF Café serves Commonplace Coffee beverages, freshly baked pastries (muffins and cookies), and sandwiches (classic turkey and cheese, and a bean and sweet potato burrito); enjoy it in the Café or outside on the patio. Café hours: Wed–Thu 11am–6pm, Sat 1pm–6pm, Sun 11am–6pm (closed Mon, Tue, and Fri). The MF Shop offers museum merchandise plus handmade crafts, art, and jewelry by local artists. BYOB is welcome on Wednesday and Friday summer evenings (hours until 8 PM).

The Mattress Factory is an installation-art museum across three historic buildings in the Mexican War Streets — 500 Sampsonia Way, 516 Sampsonia Way, and 1414 Monterey Street. Sensory processing kits (noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses, and tactile objects) are available by request at the front desk, and video installations at 500 Sampsonia include captions. Sensory notes vary by exhibition (some include strobing/flashing lights, artificial scents, or loud noises). ASL interpretation is automatic at panel events and available by request (two weeks ahead) for other events; tours for hearing- and visually-impaired visitors can be arranged in advance. Large-print visitor guides of the long-term collection are at the Admissions Desk (large-print gallery guides for current exhibitions are not currently available), and Braille guides are available at each building.
